Breakthrough goal:
Reposition for the next phase of growth.

As AI adoption accelerates, the UK faces a growing challenge around compute capacity, energy demand, and digital sovereignty. Formerly known as Carbon3, Era4 was created to solve a critical national issue: building secure, scalable AI infrastructure capable of supporting the country’s long-term ambitions.

As the company evolved from ambitious startup to nationally significant infrastructure provider, its brand no longer reflected the scale, maturity or strategic importance of the business.

Era4’s ambition was to become the UK’s AI backbone – the trusted infrastructure partner enabling government, enterprise, research institutions and innovators to scale AI securely and responsibly.

The challenge was bringing clarity to an increasingly crowded and confusing market. Competitors were making broad claims around “sovereignty” and AI infrastructure, yet much of the language felt technical, vague and indistinguishable. Internally, the business also needed a clearer narrative capable of uniting multiple audiences – from government stakeholders and investors to enterprise customers and local communities.

The existing Carbon3 identity further compounded the issue. While the business had evolved rapidly, the brand still felt startup-focused and heavily associated with sustainability messaging, rather than the national infrastructure opportunity the company was building towards.

Era4 needed a brand capable of signalling authority, stability and long-term vision, while still retaining the momentum and ambition of a modern technology business.

Working closely with the leadership team, we helped redefine the business around a clearer and more differentiated positioning: practical control.

Rather than relying on overused industry jargon, we reframed the conversation around sovereignty into something tangible and commercially meaningful – ownership and control of place, power and performance.

This strategic shift became the foundation of the new brand. We developed a scalable identity capable of speaking to multiple audiences without diluting the core proposition, helping Era4 balance the needs of government stakeholders, enterprise customers, investors and the wider public.

Alongside the strategic repositioning, we led the renaming of the business. The name ‘Era4’ was chosen to signal a defining new era in British AI infrastructure, with the “4” referencing the fourth industrial revolution. The new name intentionally moved away from technical and sustainability-led terminology, creating something simpler, more memorable and institutionally credible.

This new strategic direction transformed the business from an emerging AI startup into a future-focused national infrastructure brand.

The breakthrough idea centred on positioning Era4 as the infrastructure enabling Britain’s next era of progress.

Visually, the new identity was designed to feel authoritative, modern and nationally significant – moving away from the generic ‘Silicon Valley’ aesthetic common across the AI sector. The creative direction balanced technological sophistication with clarity and restraint, helping the brand feel more trusted, scalable and enduring.

The identity system drew inspiration from infrastructure, networks, energy and regeneration, reflecting Era4’s role in transforming overlooked industrial sites into foundations for future innovation. Combined with a more confident tone of voice and simplified messaging framework, the new brand helped make an inherently complex proposition feel understandable, credible and human.

The rebrand marked a major step-change in how the business was perceived externally and internally.

Following launch, Era4 received an extremely positive response from investors, generated significant media attention, and strengthened engagement with government and infrastructure stakeholders. The new identity and narrative has provided the business with a clearer platform for growth, while helping establish credibility within a highly competitive and rapidly evolving market.

Most importantly, the project gave Era4 a unified story capable of supporting its long-term ambition: becoming the trusted infrastructure powering Britain’s AI future.
