Getting to know Ben Stroud

Social Media Marketing Manager Ben Stroud has already settled comfortably into studio life, looking after the day-to-day and strategic social media for several key clients. With a solid agency and client-side pedigree, Ben oozes natural Northern Warmth and leaves No Stone Unturned when it comes to strategy, which makes him a perfect fit.

Tell us about your career to date?

I’ve been working in social media for about 13 years formally across a variety of different sectors, starting in the music industry with a record label I set up with friends, moving from that to Ministry of Sound and then into B2B and B2C social media marketing. I’ve worked with brands as diverse as Smooth Radio, Google, Times Educational Supplement and even worked on a livestream project with the British Space Agency, where we held a live link-up with Tim Peake on the International Space Station.

Fun fact – Tim Peake posted all his Tweets from space, as they have an intermittent internet connection on the ISS. He posted one of my Tweets directly from the ISS back to earth, which technically means I’ve had a tweet sent from the International Space Station. Still yet to visit it though, sadly.

What was your initial impression of Studio North?

The first thing that hit me was how knowledgeable everybody was. It really is a team full of experts, which pushes everybody to give their best to the clients and to each other as a collective. That’s a rare environment to be in, and I feel very lucky to be here.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Studio North team?

We have fantastic clients that have really bought into what we are doing here with social media, both from a tactical and strategic standpoint. Social media is continually evolving, so there is no time to stand still and rest on your laurels, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love keeping up to date with the latest developments and passing all this knowledge on to the wider team and our clients.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

A baker. I grew up in my nan’s bakery in Dorset, and was always fascinated by the process behind it. Unfortunately I’m rubbish at it, and much better-suited to the consumption of bread and cakes than the baking part.

What is an interesting or unusual fact about yourself?

I’m the only southerner in the Studio North team.
