Getting to know Alex Edwards

Alex Edwards has been working in design for 11 years. Having cut his teeth in New York and London, he’s now returned to Manchester as our lead designer here at Studio North.

Tell us about your career to date?

I started my working career in New York for the first 2 years, specialising as a multidisciplinary designer at a branding studio in Midtown Manhattan.

The next 4 years saw me move to London, continuing to develop as a designer working in traditional network ad agencies. The last 4 years I have settled back in my homeland of the North-West, becoming more of a designer/art director hybrid. My career so far has saw me work in many different disciplines, from branding and consumer advertising to pharmaceuticals and FMCG E-commerce for a range of different clients!

What was your initial impression of Studio North?

I’ve never settled anywhere as quickly as here in my career. The warmth, passion and bad jokes have made it more than easy to quickly become a part of the incredibly talented team we have.

There are no egos, it very much feels like a tight nit group and the daily collaboration between everyone is great to see. Everyone is extremely good at what they do, which makes working together flow brilliantly.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Studio North team?

The effortless professionalism and willingness by every single team member to create the best work they possibly can. It’s the reason why we get up in the morning and it’s great to see that passion daily. That and the daily pursuit of world domination on the office pool table!

What did you want to be when you were younger?

A footballer. I still dream of scoring the winner at the Etihad regularly, and then I wake up and smell the sausage on toast.

What is an interesting or unusual fact about yourself?

I am a qualified lifeguard.
