Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health on a global scale, focusing on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

It all started in 1999 in Australia when a group of young men decided that the middle of summer was a fantastic time to grow a beard – the seasons are upside down there! This has grown rapidly since then and is celebrated around the world. (See what we did there?)

Advertising Movember.

Movember has had some great advertising campaigns over the years and we think that it’s time that these campaigns are celebrated and focussed on too. Here are some of our favourites…

Movember Digital Poster.

This is a great example of how video analytics technology can be applied to a digital out of home ad campaign – adding some surprise for men who walk by the digital poster.

Bearded passers-by were greeted on screen with specific and humorous messages, whereas chaps with moustaches were congratulated for their look. Passers-by with no facial hair but who smiled at the screen were rewarded with tailored messages such as “This smile is a moneymaker”.

All the creative ended up with the call to action to show support for the Movember Foundation by growing a moustache for the month November.

Whatever You Grow Will Save A Bro Campaign.

Movember’s Chief Marketing Officer, Juliette Smith, said: ‘Whatever You Grow Will Save A Bro’ arose from the insight that some men want to support the charity but feel embarrassed by their facial hair, or its perceived inadequacy. It also nods to the fact that the landscape of male grooming has changed, where the ask for many is no longer ‘grow a moustache’ but increasingly more often ‘shave your beard’, adding another layer of vulnerability for the grower.

Visually, this was an amusing campaign featuring men sporting various styles of moustaches – not all of them visually pleasing!

Who remembers Mr Motivator?

Well, he was deemed to be the perfect fit for the launch of MOVE. Activity is at the heart of Movember brand, as an active lifestyle is important for physical and mental wellbeing, so whether it’s a Mo or a MOVE, this initiative helped to support the Movember Foundation’s goals to encourage men to live healthier, happier and longer lives.
