Caketober charity fun raises £650 for Forever Manchester

On Friday 30 October Studio North celebrated the end of a fantastic month of Caketober events across Manchester, with a horror themed party. Caketober gives us all a worthy excuse to indulge in cake and fancy dress in aid of Forever Manchester, to raise money for the communities of Greater Manchester.  A twist on the traditional bake sale, Studio North, Sputnik, Big Knows and Shaping Cloud decided that a Halloween party would be a fitting way to round off the month and raise awareness of this fantastic Manchester-centric charity.

In preparation for the event the Studio North offices were transformed into a bat filled haunted house and the boardroom darkened into a Creepy Cavern complete with a horror movie cinema. The Studio North team had spent some time earlier that day putting their creative talents to the test with a spot of pumpkin carving to provide decoration and to get into the halloween spirit, with only one minor carving related injury!

Will Jarvis from Shaping Cloud brought out the competitive side of the partygoers with festive pumpkin golf, whilst others engaged in the more traditional apple bobbing. Continuing the games, Simon of Big Knows gave us permission to blow his face up to gigantic proportions in order to facilitate a rather unusual game of ‘Pin the Nose on the Big Knows’ whilst back in the Creepy Cavern, PlayStation zombie games were underway.

With the obligatory Thriller playing in the background, guests tucked into the sweet offerings baked by members of Shaping Cloud, Sputnik and Studio North including skeleton cup cakes, ghost brownies, ghoulish cookies and even an incredible chocolate graveyard!

Cafe Cotton and Companio Bakery kindly provided savoury food to offset all of the sugar consumption, in the form of their delicious Chilli bean soup and artisan bread respectively.

Thanks to all of those involved in the event; everyone who attended, ate, drank and donated. Special thanks to Shaping Cloud, Big Knows, Sputnik, Cafe Cotton and Companio.  The party raised a fantastic £650 for the charity. I think everyone would agree Halloween has never before involved quite so much cake! Only another 11 months left until we can again ditch the diets in the name of charity!
